Tributes Paid to Champion of the Arts and Former Governor

Friends at St Joseph’s College have been saddened by the untimely death of former governor and past parent, Joanna Carrick, staunch ambassador for the theatre and the arts in general.

Jo Carrick was Founder and Artistic Director of the Red Rose Chain theatre company, which makes its home in The Avenue Theatre, Gippeswyk Avenue, Ipswich. A partnership between Red Rose Chain and St Joseph’s provided students with wonderful insight and access to the world of the stage.

A Cambridge English graduate, Jo came from a theatre family and was a passionate playwright and actress in her own right. She championed accessible theatre and the benefits to the disabled and disadvantaged of being part of an artistic community.

The Red Rose Chain group released a statement, saying, ‘She will be hugely missed, and the legacy of her work will live on in the lives of the countless people whose lives she touched so deeply. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband David, her son Ted and the whole of the Red Rose Chain family.’
