Results Success Across A-levels and BTEC

Thursday 15 August 2019

Students, staff and the wider St Joseph’s College community are celebrating a strong performance at A-level and record-breaking BTEC results.

The results come in an academic year in which the College achieved an outstanding inspection report - ‘excellent’ across all areas - and was placed in the top 5% nationally for its students’ progress at A-level.

The College’s Level 3 qualifications, comprising EPQ, BTEC and A-level, demonstrated achievement and attainment yet again, including a first set of results in CTEC Creative Media, complementing the fabulous suite of qualifications on offer at the school.

For the third year running, St Joseph’s has seen a rise in results overall, including the percentage of A-level grades at A* to A and A* to E.

Those students taking the popular option of BTEC qualifications also saw real success, with 45% of grades awarded at Distinction* in their Sports Science or Business qualifications, equivalent to A* grades at A-level, as recognised by leading universities. Indeed, 73% grades were awarded at Distinction* to Distinction – the gold standard.

St Joseph’s College Principal, Mrs Clarke, said: ‘The diverse provision offered in the Sixth Form at St Joseph’s has allowed our fabulous students to succeed and achieve on courses that are appropriate and offer exciting and ambitious progression routes. We are incredibly proud of them all.’

The school’s Vice Principal Academic, Mr Cinnamond, said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted by another year of strong results in the Sixth Form. The results clearly demonstrate the superb, hard-working ethos of the St Joseph’s community.’

Mr Cinnamond continued: ‘As well as more traditional courses, such as English, History and Economics, which some of our students have chosen to pursue, a growing number are looking at more specialised areas of study, including Civil Engineering, Theatre Design, Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management. A number of our young sports people have chosen to pursue sports studies further following their outstanding successes in BTEC Sport and Exercise Science, and, once again, we have students going on to play professional sport, having secured professional contracts.’
