Lower Sixth student Leo Bignell is about to have his first solo exhibition. His cardboard sculptures will go on display on Friday (4 October) at Turners, the menswear shop in Colchester. What’s unusual about Leo’s work, apart from the fact the sculptures are made from cardboard, is the drama, intensity and realism of each piece. The Royal Academy took note earlier this year when three of his sculptures were shortlisted for its first Young Artists’ Summer Show.

A Year 11 student at St Joseph’s College has made history by becoming the first 15-year-old to win a five-year contract. Harry Williams has signed with Welsh side Scarlets in a deal that will allow him to continue his studies at St Jo’s until the end of Sixth Form, before joining the team full-time.
St Joseph’s College entered some of its most talented mathematicians in the prestigious World Class Tests in Mathematics and all passed. What is more, the Year 9 students all gained a distinction or merit. A distinction is an outstanding achievement and is only awarded to the top 5% of students worldwide.
Blossom and Oakley, the two Elmer elephants adopted by St Joseph’s College, were taken on a tour of the school to show off their beautifully painted hides. The ‘young’ elephants were purchased as part of Elmer’s Big Art Parade, a charity drive supporting hospices in Suffolk, Plymouth and Tyne and Wear.
It does not seem possible to leave a production of the musical Hairspray without a smile on one's face and a spring in one's step and that joie de vivre was exploited to the full by the young cast of St Joseph’s College students when they performed the show at DanceEast. (January 30 – February 1)
