Outstanding Level 3 Attainment at St Joseph’s College

St Joseph’s College Ipswich is rightly proud of its excellent attainment at Level 3, including record-breaking A-level and EPQ results awarded to students for their hard work before the Covid-19 crisis struck. The students’ dedication to their studies once remote learning became the new normal has also ensured they are now ready to move on to the next phase of their education or working life as resilient independent learners.

Mrs  Clarke, the Principal, was delighted with the headline figures: 32% A*- A, 62% A*- B and 86% A*- C at A-level, plus exceptionally fine results across the BTEC subjects, with the average grade being a Distinction or above.

She said: ‘We are a tight knit community at St Joseph’s and were deeply saddened when our campus – like every other school – had to close. Staff and students rallied magnificently and we are hugely proud of the remote learning programme prepped and ready when the time came. Whilst we did everything we could to support all our students and maintain our sense of community, there was sadness that our Upper Sixth Formers would miss out on some of those rites of passage that make St Jo’s such a special place: the leavers’ assembly, the ball, the final farewells…

‘These outstanding results compensate to an extent and we are all delighted to share in the many success stories. Our former students, known as Old Birkfeldians, are welcomed back in the years and decades after finishing school and this will be our year of history makers, who thrived in the face of the pandemic.’

Mr Cinnamond, Deputy Principal, added, ‘This is a record set of results from a strong cohort of whom we were expecting excellent results way before Covid-19 entered the headlines. The College has achieved its highest ever set of top grades at A-level.’

‘Whilst overwhelmingly the story is one of success, a small number of students will need to make use of the new appeals process, including mock examination results. The College will be supporting students through this process. In addition, we will continue to work tirelessly to guide students with their next steps to University or employment,’ he continued.

Mrs Clarke added, ‘Students at St Joseph’s College represent a cross-section of academic abilities and other talents. The impressive results achieved reflect the students’ hard work, the unstinting support of families and the outstanding preparation provided by staff.’
