A day of achievement, aspiration and new beginnings for St Jo’s Year 11
There were celebrations across St Joseph’s College today as Year 11 students opened their GCSE results, marking the culmination of years of hard work, dedication and determination.
This year, 27% of St Jo’s students achieved grades 9 to 7, compared with a national average of 22%, with students achieving strongly across a broad range of subjects.
One of the standout individual achievements came from Max, who achieved grade 9s across nine different subjects, demonstrating exceptional breadth and consistency. Students also performed particularly strongly in Fine Art, Biology, Spanish and History.
More than a set of grades
For St Jo’s, GCSE Results Day is about more than a collection of statistics.
As an all-inclusive, non-academically selective independent school, the College brings together students with a broad range of abilities, ambitions, talents and starting points.
That makes every student’s journey different.
For some, the greatest achievement may be a top grade. For others, it may be reaching a grade they once thought was beyond them, discovering a new academic strength or developing the confidence to pursue an ambition that had previously seemed out of reach.
Our approach is built around knowing every student as an individual, understanding their potential and giving them the teaching, challenge, encouragement and opportunities to achieve their personal best.
The result is an environment where high academic ambition and an inclusive culture are not competing ideas. Students are encouraged to aim high while remaining part of a community in which different talents and achievements are valued.
Danielle Clarke, Principal of St Joseph’s College, said:
“Results Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our students and everything they have achieved. Behind every result is a story of hard work, perseverance and growth, and we are incredibly proud of every member of this year group.
“Our students do not all follow the same path, and they do not all begin from the same starting point. What matters is that we know them as individuals, challenge them to fulfil their potential and give them the support and opportunities they need to succeed.
“Today is about celebrating how far they have come and looking forward to where they will progress to next.”
Academic ambition, with opportunity beyond the classroom
Students in Years 8 and 9 also have opportunities to extend their learning beyond the conventional curriculum through qualifications such as the Further Project Qualification (FPQ) and Higher Project Qualification (HPQ).
This year, 100% of FPQ students achieved A–A, while 86% of HPQ students achieved A–C*.
Deputy Principal, Mr Sacha Cinnamond explained, “FPQ and HPQ projects enable students to study areas of personal interest that can be bespoke to their individual goals and destinations. This kind of qualification can also help to develop research skills and independent learning, with the opportunity to explore topics in greater depth and build confidence in presenting ideas.”
A journey that continues
St Joseph’s offers a continuous educational journey from Nursery through to Sixth Form, creating a strong sense of community and enabling students to develop within a familiar environment as their interests, strengths and ambitions evolve.
Our campus brings teaching, sport, pastoral provision, boarding and co-curricular opportunities together in one setting, giving students access to a breadth of experiences throughout their education.
For the Class of 2026, GCSE Results Day is therefore not an endpoint.
It is a moment to recognise everything they have achieved so far and to look ahead to the opportunities that come next.
Today, we celebrate how far they have come. Tomorrow, they begin the next chapter.
