As students enter our Sixth Form, they have increasing opportunities to make a valuable contribution to College life and to the wider community, helping to prepare them for the decisions and responsibilities they will face in the future. They leave our Sixth Form as well-rounded young adults, with an excellent perspective of themselves and the fast-changing world in which they live and work.
Since September 2016, our Sixth Formers have had a sleek and spacious home of their own on the College campus – a state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre designed by and on behalf of the Sixth Formers themselves. The building incorporates the technology to ensure the work and leisure spaces match the demands of today’s techno-savvy young adults. The furnishings, again chosen by the target audience, are both cool and comfortable.
Appropriate academic challenges at St Joseph’s come through a wide range of academic courses; providing clear – and sometimes wavy – paths to universities and colleges and also directly into careers. We endeavour to 'tailor' a selection of courses to meet the needs and wishes of each individual student. A dedicated Student Futures Coordinator helps young people make appropriate study and career choices at a time in their lives when a confusing haze of information can descend.
We also offer a broad programme of supplementary studies and extracurricular activities, including sports tours, charity work in developing countries and social occasions, such as the popular May Ball.
Student progress is monitored by personal tutors, who provide support to our students at a stage in their educational journey when independent learning and self-discipline become key, building a sound basis for university study and the workplace. All necessary support, guidance and time is made available to Sixth Formers as they tackle their UCAS applications for university. We are very proud of the offers made to our students and of their Higher Education destinations.
