Creativity is valued as much as sporting excellence at St Joseph’s College and artistic expression for all is encouraged in the same way we celebrate sport for all. We believe in the power and benefits of creativity, and that’s why – just like our sporting festivals – our annual Arts Festival is sacrosanct.
Arts Week
Creative and performing arts feature throughout our timetables from Nursery to Sixth Form and as students progress through the College, many choose to specialise in Fine Art, Photography, Creative iMedia, Music, Drama, Textiles and Dance. For some, however, such interests could become peripheral and that’s where Arts Week steps in.
With its blend of staged and pop-up events, there is scope for every student to participate – and quite a lot of the staff too! Concerts, for example, might be student-led, with bands who play together after school hours taking to the stage in front of their peers for the first time. Other music events might feature College choral groups or visiting professional musicians, including Old Birkfeldians (College alumni).
Art events range from masterclasses which students sign up to, or mass participation gatherings – expect the campus to become much more colourful. Specialist events both on and off the campus introduce students to high level artistic practice. Spur of the moment readings of Shakespeare and events such as the Rock in the Quad or the closing weekend music festival, offer all their moment to shine.

Conveniently located just one mile from Ipswich Railway Station, the College and all its facilities sit within 60 acres of beautiful, spacious parkland.
Close to the A12 and A14, St Joseph’s College serves commuters well. It is an hour away from London and Cambridge by train, and with Heathrow Airport just two hours away by car, it is ideally suited for international families.
With a network of St Joseph’s College’s minibus servicing Essex and Suffolk as well as a daily shuttle service to and from the train station, everything is done to ensure a student’s journey to school is as easy as possible.
