Pastoral care

You would struggle to find a more supportive community than St Joseph's.

The school is well known for its caring and supportive atmosphere. Our treatment of each other within this community reflects the unique ethos of the College, where each individual is valued and cared for by all.

We give encouragement and praise but demand high standards of behaviour and commitment in return. Everyone works hard to ensure our school is a happy, successful and harmonious place to be.  Each student has a tutor providing day-to-day pastoral guidance and help. The tutor will support and listen, but will also demand high standards of behaviour, attendance, punctuality, appearance and work, and will monitor each student’s progress.

Our Sixth Form provides an enlivening and dynamic approach to education, with students being encouraged and inspired by the Sixth Form management team.  This team is led by the Head of Sixth Form, who has overall responsibility, together with a Head of Year 13 and a Head of Year 12, who in turn lead a team of tutors who manage the day-to-day pastoral needs of the students.

Tutor groups are deliberately small, allowing the tutors to develop strong working relationships with the students, in order to support them through the rigours of A-level and BTEC study, both academically and pastorally.  Regular contact and conversations between staff, students and parents enable the monitoring of progress throughout each term.
