"Prep school pupils demonstrate very good skills, knowledge and understanding across all areas of learning, whether predicting results in science or expressing themselves creatively in story-writing." (ISI Inspection Report, March 2019)
The sheer breadth of the Prep School curriculum may be its most immediately obvious feature, encompassing the academic, artistic and the sporting, but its real distinction lies in its forward-thinking approach to teaching.
The best new ideas influence our approach, including the adoption of ‘Singapore Maths’ for numeracy and ‘Read Write Inc.’ for literacy; educational approaches which have shown 'traditional' teaching methods are not always the way to provide children with the finest foundations for lifelong learning.
Special attention is paid to STEM subjects - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Children may test their theoretical knowledge by creating soft landings for eggs launched from a rooftop, measuring the flight of their aircraft or determiring how much weight a boat of their own design can bear before becoming submerged.
Our focus on developing understanding and ability in the full range of subjects has led us to provide well qualified, specialist teachers and classrooms in the Prep School for Spanish, art, science and design technology.
Class sizes are small in each age group, from Reception through to Year 6.
