All pupils entering the Senior School, are selected following an assessment in Mathematics, English and Science.  These results, together with a non-verbal assessment and interview, form a profile of the child as an individual.  Working together with the pupils and their parents, the College uses this profile to nurture their academic, sporting and creative abilities and aspirations through a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum.

Progress is monitored and reported termly to parents.  Academic targets are set throughout the Senior School, together with a tutor-based pastoral structure, which supports and guides pupils. From a broad Key Stage 3 curriculum, this guidance helps pupils and parents select appropriate subjects before embarking upon their GCSE programme of study.  At Key Stage 4, all students follow a core curriculum which includes English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Science Double Award and Religious Education.  In addition, students can select up to a further six examined subjects at GCSE, if appropriate.  PE, Games and PSHE also form part of the Key Stage 4 curriculum.

The College has an excellent Learning Support Department which identifies and supports those pupils with specific learning needs including those children who are Gifted and Talented in one or more areas.

Complementary to the Academic Curriculum, an activities programme is timetabled for each year group, which enables the pupils to experience a wide range of opportunities to develop and encourage new interests and skills.  In Year 9, all students join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), developing team and leadership skills by taking part in adventure training and expeditions.  CCF becomes  an option in subsequent years and forms an integral part of the BTEC Public Services Award at GCSE.

Bursaries and Scholarships in Art, Music, Drama, Sport and Dance are available on entry into the Senior School; please contact our Registrar or Finance Department for further information - see Contacts
