Senior School Sport
St Joseph's College recognises the importance of physical as well as academic development as part of a balanced education in producing healthy and secure young adults. As well as providing exercise and competition, we strongly believe sport instils self-confidence while developing teamwork and leadership skills. Competitive and recreational sport has always had a special place in the life of our School and some of our pupils have gone on to represent their country in their chosen sport.
We are fortunate in that a wide range of sports is provided for on our 56 acre site, covering a wide range of interests and ability levels. Sports include rugby, netball, cricket, hockey, rounders, basketball, volleyball, handball, judo, tennis, athletics, cross country, badminton, squash and table tennis. Older pupils have access to sailing, boxercise, aerobics, golf, swimming, horse riding and mountaineering.
Sports Teaching Staff
Amongst our specialist staff, we have an ex international cricketer, an rugby international, international hockey veteran, and an ex Great Britain handball player. Enthusiastic and experienced members from other College departments also contribute by coaching and running teams.
Sporting Fixtures, Festivals, Tours
Inter school fixtures give all of our pupils the chance to represent the school during their time at St Joseph’s. International sports tours enhance national tours and fixtures with the chance to visit exotic climes such as South Africa and places closer to home e.g. France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Holland. In addition, the College hosts national rugby and cricket festivals which bring together national and international sports players.
Team sportswear is now available to buy online. Sportswear for both pupils and supporters can be purchased from Samurai Sportswear here.
